Hi,
I just got a new HDD running Win98. I need to import the fonts from my old HDD on my old comuter onto my new HDD. How can I do that. When I tried it by importing new fonts in the control pannel I do not see the drive. Also I tried by sharing the fonts file but only a small part of the fonts are seen by the other computer. Please help. Thanks AJS |

Does Windows Explorer see the old drive? If so, please explain in detail
exactly what you tried as there is no import function for fonts in SE that I am aware of. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "AJS" wrote in message ... When installing a second HD drive into a computer, you
need to make sure of the following: First, that the jumpers are set correctly. If you have both hard drives on the same controller cable, remember that the primary drive needs to be set as a "master" and the secondary drive needs to be set as a "slave". If they're set to the same thing, or if either drive is set to "single", then you'll have problems. Second, make sure that the BIOS is set up to recognize the drive. In the BIOS setup, confirm that the drive type is set to "auto" and, if indicated on the same screen, that the drive parameters are detected properly. Normally, that should be all that's needed for the second drive to be visible as the "D:" drive when you boot up in Windows. However, some things can cause the D: drive to not show up. For example, if the hard drive has a "drive overlay" such as "EZ-Bios" installed in its boot sector, the drive will be inaccessible. (Such an overlay is only needed when installing a large drive into an old computer that doesn't support an HD of that size.) Also, if the D: drive uses a different file system than your OS recognizes, it won't appear. For example, if you're running Windows XP on a hard drive that's formatted with NTFS, and then try to move that drive to a computer with an older version of Windows that doesn't support NTFS, the drive won't show up or be accessible. Once you get the second hard drive working and accessible, there'll still be one more obstacle you'll need to overcome: The "Fonts" folder is one of many "special" folders that appear differently when brought up in Windows Explorer. Instead of displaying a list of the files in that folder, it will display a list of the fonts installed in the system. Because this will also happen when you try to access the fonts on the second hard drive, this can cause a lot of confusion! The workaround? Copy the fonts using the command prompt. Just bring up the prompt and then type this command: copy d:\windows\fonts\*.ttf c:\windows\fonts You'll probably end up being prompted to overwrite a heck of a lot of files; in most cases you won't need to overwrite any, so just press N a bunch of times until the copy is complete. (You may need to open the Fonts folder afterwards, or even reboot, for the new fonts to show up in the list.) Alternatively, you should be able to use the "Install Fonts" dialog box in the Control Panel - Fonts window to copy the fonts. You'll get a bunch of messages about fonts that already exist on your computer, but the fonts that don't will be copied. Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- Does Windows Explorer see the old drive?
