Default floppy disk

I have a floppy disk that cannot be read and I want to
destroy the disk. I have pulled apart the case and cut up
the film part of the disk. Is the data stored on the film
only? I was told not to touch the round disk in the
middle when handling the disk. Is information stored there
as well?

It is quite safe to handle the round disk in the middle, so you may as well
cut it up as well.
