To get Created Date to be the current date, move it out & then back
in to its current folder. I'm not sure whether Windows will just
give an error message, though, if it sees the Created Dated to be
later than the current date. If so, run ScanDisk first. That will
set Created Date to 01-01-1980.

Well, that appears to be untrue-- sorry! Windows won't change Created
Date on a file moved from folder to folder. And it doesn't give an
error message, either, if it's greater than today's date!

Oh, God! Now it's working the way I originally said! Moving a file to a
new folder changes its Created Date to today's date-- but I'm through
with it! You figure it out!

NO WAY!

Being afraid to simply delete the three files, I changed their dates
and then one by one replaced them by running the ScanReg

So hopefully everything is back to normal now.

I believe the datae changes when I hit a 'bad' yahoo website:
While looking for information on magnetic fields I was redirected from
a google search to a yahoo run thread of email postings. Totally
bombed my system and hung it so bad had to power off to get back. I
cleared everything, but didn't notice the date change.

All right. Very good. It's very bad to have post-dated Registry backups.
You'd otherwise have to wait for that date to be passed for the
post-dated ones to get replaced on their own (once you've fixed the
system date). Until then, just the remaining two slots would be getting
auto-replaced at each day's 1st boot, because the one of the oldest date
is the one replaced. If you looked quick enough (after fixing the system
date), the greater date of the two backups that had a good date was the
date of the mishap, because the backup is done at boot (not at
shutdown).

So hopefully everything is back to normal now.

As far as the Registry backup process-- yep, all is well & good now.

Something must have changed your system date &/or time zone. A normal
crash wouldn't do that. Keep an eye on that date & time zone for a bit
by D-Clkng the clock on a daily basis.

Thanks for all the help. Will keep a watch on that date.

Is it just me, or have more and more websites been tying my Win98 IE
up in knots? It's as though all the latest whiz bang websites assume
EVERYONE has DSL and 10GB of space were designed a multitude of
'sloppy' software people.

It's me too (on dial-up at 52000 bps)-- you're right about that! It's a
dirty, rotten shame-- because there still are many sites quick as
lightning! I'm thinking some of it is NetZero trying to get me to
upgrade to their $15.00 version. Also, the slowest sites must have a
deal with DSL people to slow us up!
