Default Reboot And Restoring Open Folders

I had to rebuild my "ME" System from a format and reinstall.
After applying all the updates, my open folders are no longer
restored on restart/startup. Before I applied the ME updates,
the open folders were restored.
Any help would help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Restore open folders was actually a bug - fixed in IE6.

So what you're seeing now is the 'proper' response.

I'm not quite sure what IE6 has to do with Windows Desktop restoring folders
that were open when the system was rebooted. If this is really a IE6 "Fix",
then can I uninstall IE6 and reinstall IE5 to get my open folders on a reboot
or a power up restart. It gives me a point of reference of what I was doing
before the reboot or boot up.

Default Reboot And Restoring Open Folders

Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer are intricately linked (and have been
for a long time) - A fault in one is often the cause of error messages or
fault conditions in the other. Since IE is much more complex than WE, it's
more likely to break.
Yes - you could uninstall IE6 - but I really would advise against it, as it
contains very significant security advances over IE5.5 (which is what came
with ME, and which is no longer supported by MS).

If you want Windows Explorer to open on a reboot - either put a link to it
in the Start menu, or install Norton Internet Security - which has a timing
that bug causes similar problems with ME.g

Yes, I had forgotten that the use of the IE engine by Windows was so deeply
embedded. I have a Windows 2000 Pro System that did the same thing, and I could
not get anyone on the news group to respond. As a general rule, I do not use
Outlook or Internet Explorer unless I absolutely have to. I use Mozilla or off
shoots of it to do my browsing and e-mail. Mainly because I have been using
Netscape since version 1.1.
Thanks again for your assistance. It has been of great assistance to me.
