S *Capacitor* I've heard the term, not exactly sure how they function?? They
S are small cylinder type objects? Maybe, NO, the small cylinders I'm thinkin

S of may actually be called transistors. I looked up capacitors, they are
S described like batteries, and release a charge.

They can. Capacitors come in many shapes and sizes, from eighth-inch
blobs to soup can and larger sizes. (I played with one ages back that
was the size of an oil filter.) Functions vary: radios used to be
tuned by variable capacitors. I believe the function you and "glee"
are talking about is to filter out AC (alternating current) from a DC
(direct current). Computer circuits generally don't like AC so filter
capacitors are used as part of the circuit to convert AC to DC. (In
this case they do sort of act like batteries.)

If a capacitor starts leaking they don't do their job properly,
causing all sorts of problems including allowing voltages where not
supposed to be, causing components downstream to act erractically
or fail.
