Extracting the MSVCRT file from the Windows 98 CD and copying it to the
laptop seems to have solved the problem, the computer now boots into Windows with no problems except I'm back to square one with the Linksys Wireless-B adapter, the device driver will not start Keith Huff "glee" wrote in : I am not aware of any apps that update the Win98/98SE version of ntdll.dll, are you? All later versions are the ones that come with Windows ME, XP, and 2K (and SBS), according to the DLL Help Database: http://support.microsoft.com/default...sks/fileversio n/dllinfo.asp That is why I think it is the msvcrt.dll file that must be replaced.....the Windows 98 version on ntdll.dll does not have the function indicated in the error, and there is no reason for the msvcrt file to expect a later version with that function to be on a Win98 machine. At least, that's the way I see it ;-) -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm |

I agree with Glen that msvcrt.dll is the probable cause in this particular case. But, the proposed fix in the KB article is pretty weak. There are a lot of newer versions of the msvcrt.dll file than what is on the W98 CD See http://cquirke.mvps.org/9x/dllhell.htm --------------- ---- --- -- - - - - I'm baaaack! --------------- ---- --- -- - - - - |
