Default ME and Norton uninstall problem

this is for Mike M..hopefully you are reading this.
since you mentioned to Missy, that Norton Antivirus is the worst for ME..(i
agree)..have both and nothing but trouble.. can you suggest how i can delete
Norton/Symantec and all files that Norton 'virus-es' into the system so you
cannot delete or uninstall. have tried to uninstall, but b/c it has a recycle
bin protection(it latches itself onto the recycle bin for backup
protection)..since i sent all Norton's files into that bin, it will not let
sytem's "empty recycle bin" access them in order to clear the Bin. Norton is
protecting it's files by sharing the Bin's .exe file and now i cannot open
the Bin unless i rt.click and choose 'open'. once 'open', though, it still
cannot be emptied. Am trying to clean out old Me computer files, including
Norton Internet Security '07

Default ME and Norton uninstall problem

Candle
this is an old problem - caused by not uninstalling the Norton programs in
the proper sequence (which Norton refuses to divulge)
the best solution is to use the Norton manual uninstall instructions for
whichever version(s) of NAV/NIS/NSW you have had installed
start by looking here

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01090708472107
for versions from 2003 and up

If you have an earlier version, then let us know which one, and we'll have a
look for specific instructions

Good Luck

Candle:

Noel is quite right. His link will lead you to a Symantec web page to
download the Norton Removal Tool. It will removal all Norton products from
2003 through 2007. I have found that this tool is the best way to thoroughly
remove Norton 2003-2007 products. Using it will save you much trouble and
many headaches.

Let us know how this works for you.

Cheers,
Jerry

ooops! - Symantec in their infinite wisdom have broken their own link to the
RNAV2003 tool on that page.... look here if you need it
http://service1.symantec.com/support...6?opendocument

You may also need to use the SYMClean utility to get rid of the remains of
NSW files for pre-2003 versions
http://service1.symantec.com/support...01101612274407

(I HATE the Symantec site - it's a nightmare to find anything, and all the
b&&&dy links have to be checked!)

Which is why I have been sitting here for the last hour or so watching you
answer the question. Symantec's site is just like their products - total
cr$p.

Default ME and Norton uninstall problem

....'morning Mike!
I did wonder how come you'd not chimed in before
It's been so long since I had anything to do with Norton on a Win9x system,
I'd forgotten how bad the site actually was, and their internal search
engine is totally useless.
For future reference, the best way I've found for searching the site is to
use Google with the site:symantec.com switch - although I haven't tried
'bing' yet.
(I must admit it was a surprise when MS announced bing - I've always used it
as an acronym for BootItNG, and sorta assumed that terabytesunlimited had
acquired the domains)

BING is a trademark of terabyteunlimiited and I understand that they have
consulted lawyers but know nothing more. I'm guessing that it will be the
usual big company small company thing with Microsoft winning for no other
reason than that they have the money to throw at it.
