Default registry went nuts

Greetings,
Had an odd one this evening.
restarted the machine after a AV scan (AVG)
machine started asking me for a win password (I don't use one)
machine lost all memory of the video driver (ATI)
machine would only start in safe mode.
repeated diskscan showed no problems
did a registry scan using PCTools Registry Mech. (no new problems)
tried a restore but only had 1 point showing in the history record
(date time showed it to be the same time I had restarted after the AV scan)
so
I did a floppy disk restart and a scanreg/restore
(had a few dates from yesterday, picked the closest one to today)
System restarted normally..

Anyone got any ideas what the h&&& happened.?

Tks,
RTS

Sorry, no insight as to what may have happened. But, you did all the right
things to recover and, apparently, successfully. The 'scareg/restore' would
have been my suggestion. It would be a good idea to insure that regular
'auto Restore points' are still being made. Mike M. is, of course, the
Restore guru in the event it is not creating restore points.
Heirloom, old and ya did good

well toooooak me Mow, :-)

I got a sneaky feeling the power supply is the problem..
I'm using a ASUS A7V8X-X (MB) and the manual calls for at least a 350watt
PS. I got a Allied 350watt unit..
I've notice sometime lately that it won't start when turned on the startup
stops at the black screen MB test (long before it gets to the windows
start)

If I wait 30 or 60 seconds after powerup to boot the startup it
completes..

Had the same problem with the puter before this one..
(Also had an Allied power supply)
