I tried to post to reply to the pcgames and it did not go through so I
was upset that I had not copied and saved the data. I think that
Microsoft is a great company and they have supported 98, 98SE and ME for
a long time. They also released a security cd for these operating
systems which was helpful. In addition, they released Virtual Machine
for free. I have noticed this trend in other Microsoft newsgroups that
sometimes you cannot reply to a particular post because it is deleted
right away. Can anyone comment on this issue, please and thanks in advance.

A MS employee deletes posts that are blatantly spam or contain excessive
profanity. Porn (especially if there is a hint of child porn) is not
tolerated. I've seen an occasional post that got deleted and should not
have been. I think it was merely an error since on occasion, an MVP's
answering post was deleted as well. In the 10 years I have posted in these
groups, I have never seen a post deleted merely because it was critical of
MS or Bill Gates.

I've had a post not appear on the MS news server but turn up in Google
Groups. IIRC, I was responding to a non-MS security related question.
I'm still baffled as to what really happened, but I understand that
Usenet is not 100% reliable.

Thanks Franc. It is interesting that my reply to Ron is now gone but
fortunately it is in your reply which I find to be puzzling. Is it
possible that certain issues are censored on the Microsoft newsgroups
but will still turn up in Google Groups since maybe Google Groups do not
use censorship or only use it in extreme cases. Thanks in advance for
any comments.

IME Usenet is an unreliable medium. I often see replies to posts
without seeing the original post. Like you, I notice that Google seems
to catch everything. Although some groups are "moderated" (the Usenet
euphemism for "censored") I don't think this was necessarily what
happened to your post.

Thanks for your thoughts, Franc and your theory makes sense. I would
chalk up another point for Google. grin
