While defraging, it goes to 10% then freezes...why

Some task interfering.

Run it in safe mode and see if it runs OK.

0-4% checking disk
5-10% reading file/folder structure
11-100% actually defragging

If fail at 10% there is probably a disk error, run scandisk in thorough mode
and fix the disk error

10% of defrag is a specific point, and Defrag can stay here for a long
time while the rest of the job will be performed much more fast when 11%
will be reached.

If you didn't run Defrag for a long time before -- try to leave it run
for an hour or two (sometimes, when the drive is fragmented vastly, the
full Defrag can take about 5 hours, and about 2..4 of them can stay at
10%).

BTW, you can press "Details" button in Defrag windows and see, does it
actually freezes at 10% -- or works nevertheless, i.e. whether it
shuffles the clusters.
