Default Printers absent from Device Manager

This Win98SE PC has two printers:
Brother Laser connected LPT (default) -- no problems
Brother Inkjet (multifunction) connected USB(v.2) -- too slow.

I suspect the Inkjet prints slowly because of standard
installation including Brother bundled software (mainly
for scanner) which I do not use and have uninstalled.
As many as 10 drivers were associated with this printer,
and I have already identified for removal that for network
scanning, since I do not scan via network. All the others
specify either print or USB connection or pseudodrive
(card reader.)

I planned to look at the list of drivers via Device Manager
as for any other device -- but printers no longer appear in
Device Manager (although I am sure they used to.) The
Printers menus provide for updating drivers but do not
list drivers currently loaded. (I could make a table of
various permutations to reinstal drivers, e.g. omitting
the pseudodrive, but there seem too many variables.)

Is there any simple way to get / Printers back into the
Device Manager so its menus will list for me what drivers
have been installed?
