Default Upgrading processor on old comp to K6-2@300MHz - errors starting

On Wed, 24 May 2006 10:17:13 -0400, "Jay" put
finger to keyboard and composed:

The only option that has worked is to completely turn off L1 cache. Of
course, this slows the machine too much to make it worthwhile.

Suggestions? Is it possible the L1 cache is physically damaged? (It tested
fine with DOS tools). L2 cache is definitely not a problem.

I'd try to get the L1 cache working with more conservative memory
timing, eg a lower FSB frequency. I'd also check that the heatsink is
attached properly. Other than that I don't know what you can do.
Perhaps other people are aware of a suitable cache testing utility ???
Maybe AMD has a utility for this purpose ???

Yes, changing the FSB was a good start. Windows is up and running but it is
at an odd speed: 291.5MHz, 83.3 x 3.5. This is actually a higher FSB, it
was @ 75 x 4.
