Hi Dian
I checked and Acrobat 5 is installed and no addin.

I am seriously thinking of formating but I want to leave that as the last
resource

But did you also check Control Panel/Add and Remove Software?

I believe Acrobat 7 changed its method and no longer uses a regular
template addin...but does an addin install. I don't use Acrobat, but
was told this by someone who does use it. You have to unstall the Word
addin to remove that. So check your control panel.

The bottom line here is that if the /a switch worked...SOMETHING is
causing the problem by conflicting as an addin. The problem is you've
got to find it. If you HAVE checked all these locations...I'm sorry,
but I don't know what else to tell you other than make sure you did
check everything as explained in the emails and articles.

Maybe someone else will have an idea that I've missed and will pass it
along.

Good luck!

You mean reformatting your hard drive...SHEESH! That's kinda like
killing a fly with an elephant gun! ;-) I just don't understand folks
who reformat so easily. I haven't done that in years and the thought
makes me cringe...too much work putting all my stuff back together the
way I like it.

Acrobat 7, I believe, is the version that has the addin through
Add/Remove software. So if you have ver 5...then there should just be
a template in your startup...assuming THAT is the problem. I can't
remember the exact name, but I think it starts with PDF (maybe
PDFwriter.dot???) Maybe someone knows and will jump in.

Since it's simply a matter of an addin causing the problem...which we
know due to it works with the /a switch...you'll save yourself a ton
of hassle by just looking for the problem DOT versus reformatting your
whole hard drive!

I have a free utility on my web site that will give you all your Word
default...including your startup directory path. You can use that to
try to find the problem. And you can also search for *.dot to locate
all templates and look for one in a startup path (or some PDF dot...or
some dir that is suspicious?).

If you want the utility...you can download it he

Good luck...
