Try going to Start}Programs and pick a program shortcut. Right click it to get the context menu. Select "Open". Does the program open? Sure should. So what does it mean if it does open? Well, it means that Windows will read and act on the path contained in the *lnk file (shortcut)...that the mechanism for doing so isn't broken. We pretty much already knew that since the same link works from C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs and your desktop; consequently, the only thing I can think of is that it isn't picking up your left clicks. Why? No idea since it seems to elsewhere. Are you 100% sure it is only those particular shortcuts that don't function? Might try a different mouse and/or check mouse properties in Control Panel. Especially the double click speed. Sorry to be so nebulous, just brainstormiing, best I can do. -- dadiOH ____________________________ dadiOH's dandies v3.06... ....a help file of info about MP3s, recording from LP/cassette and tips & tricks on this and that. I just installed a clean W98 on an old system. All the programs loaded are available through the desktop icons but nothing will open through the start/programs menu - regardless if I have installed a new program myself. Eg Start/Programs/Accessories will expand but not open any programs. Help!!?!!! Your start up folder by ging to start/run/msconfig/startup and then select the program to start when booted. bw |
