Default Solitaire error

When I open Solitaire, I receive an error stating the program has
performed an illegal operation....

I have tried the microsoft support suggestions but the symptoms they
describe are not exactly the same errors. So no luck there at all. I have
tried everything it seems.

Windows98 was preinstalled on my computer, so I don't have a Win98 disk,
only a Quick Restore disk.

Below are the details. Can this be fixed?
Thanks in advance!

If you use AOL Instant Messaenger (AIM), or *any* instant messaging app, turn off
its option to start with Windows. Also, if you are using IntelliMouse software for
your wheel mouse, try disabling that and see if it helps.
