Default Problems

I have 2 annoying propels which seem to elude resolution.
1. When the desktop is about 80% complete (very hard to judge exactly) but
notably always before the Windows Explorer icon appears and before the
Office shortcut bar and Outlook are launched, the computer stalls with the
egg timer symbol on the screen. There is no response to any keyboard
strokes. I have waited up to 2 hours and nothing happens. The only answer
is to turn off and restart.
Normally the system boots up without further problem, but occasionally it
needed up to 3 restarts.

2. How can I find out what causes the dialup panel to crop up here, there
and everywhere. I am regularly running SpyHunter, Ad-aware6 and Reg
Supreme, but without success.

Any suggestions will be most welcome
