Computer crashed when I used windows update

I have a HP Pavilion XE783 with 128mg Ram and a 30 gig
HD.When I went to the Windows Update site and downloaded
the Service pack for Windows ME I recieved a message that
the files were corrupt and when I closed the message out
and attempted to use my computer it crashed and I had to
to a total restore on it.Is there a problem with the
service pack,a problem with the site or what?ME came on
the restore disks for the computer and I have not got a
clue what happened.

There is no service pack for Win Me so what was the patch ior update you
were trying to install. Perhaps it was IE6 SP1? If so then no there is
no problem with that although that doesn't mean that for various reasons
some users have problems when installing it on their system, one common
cause for such problems being that they have antivirus application such as
NAV or McAfee running a the time.
