As Ron says PERF.VXD is a system file, it is the System Performance Monitor. Yours may be missing or corrupted. Try Start Run and enter SFC and extract just that one file. It goes in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32 folder. Don't restore any files with the SFC scan unless they are missing or corrupted. You could void any updates. You will find Perf.vxd listed under this Registry key...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\VMM32Files ...., which means it is inside the conglomerate FILE... C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD. That file was generated during the installation of Windows, & can only be generated properly while installing Windows again. It is specific to the computer on which it is generated. To override one of the files inside the conglomerate such as Perf.vxd, put a copy of it into the FOLDER Watt said... C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32 However, if it fails to cure the symptoms, may as well delete it again & let the one in the conglomerate run. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "b11_" wrote in message ... | I have more than 1 bootable partition but none of them have the file in the | VMM32 folder! | __________________________________________________ ___________- | "Bill Watt" wrote: | | On Mon, 7 Nov 2005 17:40:06 -0800, "b11_" | wrote: | | When I try to run SYSMON, a message appears on the screen informing me that | PERF can not be found.
