Default swap file not releasing mem after re-boot

Used to release after a few minutes even without re-booting,now taking
a couple of DAYS!

Any ideas?

The swap file does not use any memory (which is RAM). The swap file
uses disk disk space, which is storage.

Windows 98 is designed to start up with a swap file that is equal to
the largest size normally required during recent operating sessions.
This is a performance issue, as rebuilding the swap file from zero
after each bootup and repeatedly increasing the size as more Windows
components, device drivers, and application programs are loaded does
slow the machine down.

If your concern is the amount of disk space being used by the swap
file then there are a few options:

1. Buy a larger hard drive.
2. Add more RAM
3. Run fewer applications at once, and reduce the number of items
that you load at startup.

Good luck

Here's probably a better explanation of the problem:When running
certain programs(MS Trainsim editor for example)it gradually reduces
the amount of free space reported on the C: drive(editor is on
Duntil there's not enough left to run the comp.At that point, I
would re-boot,and if the free space reported wasn't immediately
regained, it would be shortly. But lately,it's been taking longer and
longer to (even a couple of days!)to get the original amount of free
space back(+ - 287 megs)When I use DiskInfo to find out what is using
all this space,it is always 386.swp(or enh386.swp,I'm not home
now).Eventually it will reduce in size until the C: drive has it's
normal free space amount reported. It's the length of time it takes
now, that is concerning me...hard drive is pretty old now,by the way
