I have bought a new (used) computer and want to know if there is any way to find out if it was ever used to view pornographic web sites or has any objectional content on it. When I go to the IE (6SP1) History tool bar, it only has "Today" listed. Is there anyway to go further back? How about finding old files that might have been deleted? After a file is removed from the trash can, is it gone for good? I need to know this so that my nieces and nephews can not accidentally (or purposely) run into such information as they are computer wizzes! Thanks in advance.

If you don't have the detailed history of the machine you should erase the
disk and start over. It's not only objectionable material that you should be
concerned about, but viruses and trojans.

If you can connect to the net on this machine? Go to:
http://www.contentpurity.com/scanintro.htm

Click Start/Now button and follow instructions.
It will show anything including things that may have just
words like sex, porn, violence, etc. This is not a complete
scan but will give some direction. And it's free. What
should one expect.
