Media Player 9 under 98SE?

I admit it. I'm still running MP 6.4. I had heard that the later Hey, I love and still use a full updated & fully codec'd v6.4 too for a number of reasons, but at the same time I have the W98SE version of WMP v9 and love that too, and use it specifically for the wmv files. However, my v6.4 plays almost all the files that v9 will play. Do you have an audio or video file that v6.4 won't play? (if you do could you send it to me) I have all the major players isolatedly installed and use them specifically for their proprietary benefits, and besides how can one help someone with a problem of a specific player if they don't have it installed themselves. versions were huge resource hogs, bloatware, and contained all that obnoxious DRM stuff that tells Bill the name of every file you play, and let's him control your life. :-) Honestly, it's easy via options to disable everything you don't want, as I certainly did, and there are no issues and no phone homes or anything - I love it actually! You set all the options neutered, for instance when you install it here's a screenshot of when I did and certainly unchecked all these options: http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/356/rick9hf.png ...and did a lot of other custom option changes and other things to tame it which suit my taste. But I'm having a problem finding a program that will convert WVM9 multimedia files to MPEG1, and it may be that the conversion programs want MP9 to be installed. One of them - Jet Audio - says that explicitly. It's strange because the WMV codecs are all there, (I installed something called wmv9VCM) and the files play just fine under MP6.4, but apparently that's not enough. So I wonder if I should bite the bullet and install MP9, but I'd like to hear what experiences others have had doing that. ....my accolades as mentioned above. If you have W98SE you can get your wmp9 player he http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...&qstechnology= Also, in case someone might have an insight, the basic problem is that TMPGEnc will convert WVM files to MPEG, but does slow extremely slowly on my Celeron 500 system (no SSE), so I'm looking for something better. I've installed the Main Concept MPEG Encoder, v1.4.2, which is very nice and pretty fast, but when I try to convert a WMV, it says "no video data found". Others running MC have no problem with WMV's. Strange. So I'm looking for a way to get Main Concept to work right (no, Support has no clue), or another program that will do these conversions. Yeah it's tough to find a converter to do all things perfectly, especially video files with the new fancy vbr audio & video especially with the wmv series, and the best I've seen convert those is a program by Canopus called ProCorder but it's very expensive. Thank goodness that I have access to using it - it's remarkable and does WMV9 easily. If there was something one time specific you needed done I could get it done for you, otherwise there are lots of other brand names that do converting - I've tested almost all of them too, but most all of them do have various kinds of trouble with the wmv files you are right about that, but there are a few that can do it.
