win98 shutdown image
I've been looking at it for almost a decade now, but going through the
windows directories I cannot locate the file that contains this somewhat crude and out of focus image. Can anybody tell me where the picture comes from? Cornelis Koger |

Three files (they may be hidden if you have that option set in Explorer)
comprise the start and shutdown screens. The logo.sys (start screen) is in the root directory (normally C:\) either as its own file or it is imbedded in the io.sys file. The logow.sys (wait screen) and logos.sys (shut off screen) are located in the C:\Windows folder. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "C.D. Can anybody tell me where the picture comes from? Cornelis Koger Cornelis: The various boot and shutdown screens are located in the following files: C:\LOGO.SYS (Windows 98 Startup Logo.) C:\WINDOWS\LOGOW.SYS (Windows 98 Please Wait For shutdown Screen.) C:\WINDOWS\LOGOS.SYS (Windows 98 Safe to turn Off screen.) Dispite the .SYS file extention these are graphic files 320 x 400 x 256 colors in the Windows bitmap format. They are hidden system files so you will have to set windows explorer to "Show ALL Files: to see them. To load them or change them you will have to uncheck the "Read Only" box in Properties. It never crossed my mind to look for graphics camouflaged as *.sys files, but I could have known: the contents of msdos.sys also aren't what you would expect. "C.D. Koger" wrote in message ... Can anybody tell me where the picture comes from? Others already answered, but I suggest you try this great free program: Winlogo Changer http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscrape.../79/index.html If you google you can find instructions on how to make your own. There is also an infinite variety of those 3 screens available all over the place. -- Disagreements and the usual insults expected and welcomed. |
