IE6 download question
My current IE6 has suffered so many patches and 'enhancements' that it has
become a nuisance. If the web page contains an error or a long script is terminated, IE6 chokes in it and even after the program is closed it may take up to 10 min. (!) for win98se to resume normal operation. And about 1 time out of 3 I am left with a mutilated desktop without icons on the status line. So I decided to download it from Microsoft, delete the current one, remove remnants from registry etc. But I got only an installer that loaded a wizzard that loaded some updates I didn't know I needed. It seems that Microsoft decides for me what I need and need not, based on the current config. I could uninstall first, install IE5 from the Win98 CD and go to Microsoft for an update to IE6-SP1, but there must be a shorter method. Do I have to save the favourites and all email messages before installing? Cornelis Koger |

IE6 download question
Try overinstalling IE6 SP1.
First, close *everything* via CTRL+ALT+DEL except Windows Explorer (includes your AV program, Scheduled Tasks, Screensaver, and going offline). StartRunIE6Setup.exe. Select Minimal - Custom; Select all the parts you use, including OE (but none you didn't originally download) and overinstall. Should take about 2 minutes. Reboot the computer. Now, with AV and all other running processes still closed, check in at Windows Update for additional updates and patches you may need. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org C.D. Excellent suggestion, thank you.
IE6 behaves normal again. It didn't cure a long existing shutdown problem after using IE6, but everything else is O/K. "PA Bear" wrote in message ... Try overinstalling IE6 SP1.
