Default many errors in various things

Your system restoration won't function correctly without
the latest updates for Windows ME. Go to
microsoft/upgrade.com to receive the latest system restore
& security upgrades.

The following all happened to me in one day. ow.

1) first,I thought I'd upgrade my geforce 4 drivers. so i
did. As it was installing, at 13%, it uptaded the

hardware
information database, and after that, gave me some error
saying that install has caused an error in ikernal.dll

That message wouldnt leave even when I clicked close
rather than ignore. So I restarted my system.

2) When I restarted, windows wouldnt load! it just froze.
I went to safe mode and ran a virus scan with norton
antivirus, which found 20 something threats. It could

onle
fix 12 of them. I installed the drivers again, and it
worked this time, and I could start my computer

3)after I did so, when i click on even a regular folder,
it gives me an "open with" dialog box. when I right click
my folders, there are TWO open commands, and only the
second works. also when I run scandisk, it finds

something
in my temp folder that has an invalid last modified date.
I tell it to fix the error, and then I tells me that
windows or some other program(exactly those words) has
written to the drive while I was scanning, and tells me
that it has to restert the scan. Then It does the same
thing over and over again.

How can I fix all of these problems? (i tried restoring

to
an earlir dates presets, but it tells me it won't do it
for some reason.) sorry this is so long. thanks.

DO NOT follow the advice below - the poster has no idea of what he speaks!
There is only one update for System Restore in ME - and that was first
posted in April 2001. Installing it will delete all existing Restore points
Security Updates (not upgrades) have no relevance in this context.
