"It appears that you are trying to open a document written using a later
version of MS Word than can be opened with WordPad. For details see MS KB
276337 - "WD2000: Problems Opening Word Document in WordPad"

"Rather that trying to use WordPad you might want to consider downloading
and
installing the free Microsoft Word viewer"

Thanks Mart,

If nothing else you saved me hunting for a copy of the same reply! vbg

Unfortunately the WD 2000 viewer is no longer to be found at that URL and
the more recent Word 2003 viewer doesn't run on Win 9x systems. Hopefully
a copy of the WD2000 viewer can be found elsewhere. Ah, I've found what
looks like a genuine copy of the Word 97 viewer at
http://www.5star-shareware.com/Windo...rd-viewer.html

Mike, having successfully confirmed the first link, I didn't bother with the
second - somebody's law applies, I guess! I must amend my 'stock answers'
accordingly. Thanks for the heads-up.

Mart,

I suspect I only checked the links because you'd done the spade work and
found a copy of my post. :-) Either that or boredom as I try and shake
off this d$$n bug or whatever and wait for another tape to be digitized -
I've at long last started on trying to digitize a great number (200+++) of
Bec's VHS tapes.

Cheers,

Ever tried watching paint dry? g

Hope your bug clears soon - it's beginning to linger.
