I am a Mac user who is trying to help a PC (IBM) friend get on the
newsgroup circuit. I would like your advice on what is the best newsgroup reader/uploader software for him to use. After all, you guys are the real experts. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. |

If the friend is to use this for file transfers in the alt.binary groups or wants easy yEnc support then there's a chunck of software called GrabIt available free from: http://www.shemes.com/ I've found that when doing multi-part downloads it's simply the easiest way to go. -- Galen - MS MVP - Windows (Shell/User & IE) http://dts-l.org/ http://kgiii.info/ "We approached the case, you remember, with an absolutely blank mind, which is always an advantage. Personally, rather than Grabbit, I'd recommend NewsBin Pro 5.05 (www.newsbin.com) for multi-part binary downloads including yenc support. I'm aware of several recent instances where Grabbit had major problems with certain postings that NewsBin Pro took in its stride. Nevertheless each to their own. Other news readers the poster may wish to consider include Forte Agent (www.forteinc.com) and XNews (http://www.slyck.com/xnews.php). -- Mike Maltby |

Thanks for the link. g As for the Forte Agent, it was decent enough but not intuitive in my opinion. XNews is a fantastic piece of work at my last usage but not fit for common every-day usage. It was handy as all snot for running from a floppy back in the day though. Forte did have a free option, I am guessing they still do, but I'll take a gander at NewsBin because, well, I don't really have much else to do with my life. g -- Galen - MS MVP - Windows (Shell/User & IE) http://dts-l.org/ http://kgiii.info/ "We approached the case, you remember, with an absolutely blank mind, which is always an advantage.
