Windows ME not reporting correct hard drive size
Windows ME in control panel report my hard drive as 3 gig. My hard drive is
10 gig. How can I fix this without reinstalling the operating system? Also, the screen "It is now safe to shut down your computer..." never comes up and as a result scan disk runs whenever I boot the system. Are these problems related? Thank for the help, Ray |

Ray for your shutdown problems look here
Courtesy of MikeM. Joan Tracking down shutdown and power-off problems (they differ) can be somewhat difficult but may I suggest that you start by having a look at MS KB 273746 - "How to Troubleshoot Windows Me Shutdown Problems" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=273746) and then move on to Jim Eshelman's pages at http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm and http://aumha.org/win4/a/shtdwnme.htm which cover this topic. Hopefully you will find advice there that will help your resolve your problem. -- Mike Maltby Ray wrote: Windows ME in control panel report my hard drive as 3 gig. My hard drive is 10 gig. Windows ME in control panel report my hard drive as 3 gig. My hard drive is 10 gig. How can I fix this without reinstalling the operating system? Open a DOS command prompt window and enter the following command: FDISK /STATUS Write down the results and post that information back here. There are two prime suspects for the cause of your problem: 1. Your hard drive is not being properly recognized by the computer's BIOS. In that case the FDISK /STATUS report will show that the drive is a 3 gb and that all the space is being utilized. 2. Your hard drive has not been partitioned correctly, and there is some space not being used by any partitions. It is also possible that the missing space has been configured as a non-DOS partition or as an Extended DOS partition with no logical drives defined. The FDISK /STATUS report will reveal the details if this is what has happened. Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C. FDISK /STATUS should have provided some additional information about the partitions that exist on the drive. Try this: FDISK /STATUS STATUS.TXT Then use start - run - C:\STATUS.TXT to open the file in Notepad. Copy the entire text from Notepad (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and then paste that into a reply back here (Ctrl+V) Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C. Ron,
Every time I try this I get an error that says parse error 9. Not sure what that means. Ray "Ron Martell" wrote in message ... "Raymond Tucker Jr" wrote: fdisk/status shows 9774 mbytes 100% usage?
