Default problems networking 2 computers

Hi there,
I Have two compuers and i have brought a CAT5 cable to network the two computers so that i can share files and folders, a printer and a internet connection (broadband).
I am not 100% sure that i only need that cable, if i need anything else please tell me.
i am not sure if i need a network hub as i am only connectiong two computers.
by the way both of my computers are new with windows XP proessional edition, both are more that two Ghz and one of them has a 64-bit prosessor

Could you please tell me if i need a router to use a internet connection through the other computer?

Thanks for all of your help,
also if you know some websites that sell or have info about networking then could you please send them to me as a web site link

Thanks

David...

David,

If networking two PCs without the use of a switch of hub you need to use a
cross-over cable. To share your internet connection without using a router
you will have to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the PC that connects to
the net.

Since you are apparently running XP may I suggest that you post your query to
the windowsxp.network_web newsgroup since this one is primarily for those
using the Win Me operating system and having problems when printing.
