Default IE7 [WAS] New Spybot and Spywareblaster Updates, Nov 3, 2006

I'm using it here Heather, I installed it on Johns machine last week and
he is happy so then put it on mine. At the moment I'm switching between
IE7 and Maxthon to see which I prefer overall.

No problems downloading and installing or running it at the moment, but
it's early days, I was a little bit naughty when it came to installing as
I never turned off my AV or ZAPro I did make a restore point though g

You go for it girl, give it a whirl, don't forget that there are a hell of
a lot more using it without problems than the few you see complaining in
the ng's g

I agree, Alias......I had a look at a few of the XP news groups with
regard to this and sure didn't see any positive outlooks. I will
stick with Firefox and maybe take a look at IE7 way down the road
when the bugs are ironed out.

I thought you had been around long enough to know by now that only those
having problems post to the newsgroups seeking help and not those
experiencing none. I've been running IE7 on XP on at last one machine
since July 2005 when IE7 beta 1 was released and have not experienced
problems or rather not with the later builds. I take that back, just
one of any significance and that is that for some odd reason I cannot
access the web interface on my router (Thomson SpeedTouch 585i v6) using
IE7 unless I remove the password. This is due to an authentication
problem that Thomson are fixing with their next firmware release.

You mention lack of positive feedback. Well this is just that and I can
honestly think of no good reason why any person using XP should not be
using IE7 today. Certainly it has a few quirks and there is one feature
I find annoying but IE7 is without doubt far superior to IE6.

OK, so probably there will be no problems. That said, give me one good
reason to download and install it other than it being "kewl". Will it
improve XP's performance? I don't have Opera or Maxthon. Are you saying
I should download and install those two because they are kewl and no one
of any significance has had any problems? In short, is it a need or a
"nice to have" thing?

After the WGA/N fiasco, I am reluctant to download anything that MS says
is a Critical or High Priority Update when, in fact, the update isn't
critical or high priority.

Interesting comment Mike, I haven't yet installed IE7 on my XP boxes and was
almost ready to so, but have just seen potential 'password issues' being
flagged on the Hubbub user group regarding the 'new' BT Home Hub WiFi Router
following installation of IE7. (A firmware upgrade is allegedly 'on the
way')

Once installed, can IE7 be uninstalled and reverted back to IE6 (using SR
etc) if necessary? I'm reluctant to try until the issues are resolved.

Mart,

Yes, IE7 can be uninstalled and should do so without problems. I ran
perhaps six or seven beta builds on this box and uninstalled and returned
to IE6 each time before installing a new build. I usually ran IE6 for
about a day, including updating it with any patches that had been
released, and never encountered and problems before installing the next
version of IE7. IE7 appears in Add/Remove Programs as Windows Internet
Explorer 7.

The BT Home Hub is, as you probably know, a rebadged Thomson router so
it's not really much of a surprise to me that it suffers the same problem
with IE7. For now I've chosen to remove my router's password and don't
consider this to be a security risk given that I have the router
configured to only allow access from the LAN rather than WAN, or rather
WAN access requires a different account and password from that when
accessing from the LAN. Being the principal and often only user of my LAN
I think I can trust myself not to take advantage of the router not having
a password configured at the moment. Thomson tell me that their as yet
unreleased v6.2.0.x firmware will solve the problem for those using a
ST585i v6.

I suppose you have a point.....but mine was basically that I never use
IE other than getting updates from MS. I have used Firefox for at least
2 years and I am quite happy with it.

Yes, of course I am not going to see the happy people on the ng's, but I
was surprised at the variety of problems the complainers seem to be
having. And no, I don't remember them offhand.

As long as I can remove it if I don't like it, then I might download
it.....but am in no rush.

What the heck is Maxthon?? Not to worry, I will go look it up.

Cheers.....Heather

I have been using IE7 for a few days and I like it. I have only encounted one
problem and that's when I click on a link to a video, when media player opens
it asks me to connect again. If I click cancel my internet connect will close
so I have to click connect and the video starts. Strange!!

Has anyone encountered simular problems?

Craig.
