Dead Computer
I switched on my computer this morning and used it for a while.
The power unit fan normally starts on boot up. When I went back to the computer after doing something else the computer was completely dead (the fan was dead also). I opened up the power unit and cleaned all the muck out of the power unit and fan and retried booting. When I switched on, the fan swirled for about a centimetre then stopped and this happens every time I switch on and the computer is still dead. I have disconnected everything (except mains supply for test purposes) from the power unit to isolate it Would I need a new fan or a new power unit? Would the power unit crank up if there was no fan or would it cut out? Does power have to go to the CPU first to crank the power unit fan up or would it run from just the mains supply? Thanks ajw -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums....dware/200512/1 |

Dead Computer
It's almost certainly a dead power supply unit - they're not worth trying to
repair, so get a new one. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "aw56001 via WindowsKB.com" u15748@uwe wrote in message news:5865ca8369ac7@uwe...
