Data DVD won't recognize
I burned a Data DVD for a friend with Windows ME and he
has a DVD drive. However, he cannot read the disk in his DVD drive. While burning I did the necessary finalization to the disk so that it can be read in regular dvd drives. Are there any codecs or any other O.S. updates that are needed for the disk to be able to be read? It just says there is no disk in the drive. Oh, he can play DVD movies just fine too... |

Data DVDs require no codecs which are used to decode audio and video
streams. Causes for this problem could include a bad burn (was the DVD verified after burning?), cheap media and faulty hardware. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Jeff wrote: I burned a Data DVD for a friend with Windows ME and he has a DVD drive. After I burned the DVD I checked it on my stand alone DVD
drive on my computer and it worked fine. I have a 16x Creative DVD drive. The guy trying to read it has 2 or 3 year old Gateway computer. -----Original Message----- Data DVDs require no codecs which are used to decode audio and video streams. If you know the DVD to be OK then the problem has to be with the PC having
problems reading it. Not that I quite understand what you mean by "stand alone DVD drive on my computer" since "stand alone and "on my computer" would appear, to me at least, to be contradictions. Personally I configure my burning software to verify burned disks on completion, this is a byte by byte comparison of data read from the DVD with the source files on my PC. This however is not normally possible for either audio or (S)VCD disks due to the way such disks as formatted. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Jeff wrote: After I burned the DVD I checked it on my stand alone DVD drive on my computer and it worked fine. If his drive won't read it but yours will, his drive may be dirty and in
need of cleaning, or it may simply be too old to read burned DVD discs. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Win9x] * PLEASE post all messages and replies in the newsgroups * for the benefit of all. I checked the DVD and it would read fine on any other DVD
drive with Windows XP. Is there some compatibility issue with Data DVD's and Windows ME? That's the only other variable here. -----Original Message----- Data DVDs require no codecs which are used to decode audio and video streams.
