Default Digital camera driver

HELP!! I just bought a Sony Dscp 73 digital camera and
have spent hours trying to figure out how to transfer
images to WIndows ME. The software that came with the
camera says it will install a USB driver, but it does not!
I have tried downloading USBNTMAP.SYS and USBSTOR.SYS but
to no avail... On top of that I cannot find my ME start up
disc anywhere. I am so frustarted I am nearing throwing
the computer and camera out the 2nd floor window of my
apartment!!

Can anyone help....PLEASE!!!!???

usbntmap.sys and usbstor.sys are, with most other usb related files, in
the "cab" files in the Win9x folder on the Win Me CD and also in either
Windows\Options\Cabs or the Windows\Options\Install folder and not
directly visible in Explorer. Look for the folder containing the file
BASE2.CAB. When the installer asks for files point it towards the folder
containing the file BASE2.CAB. Regrettably companies such as Compaq made
a complete botch of things when they installed Win Me and in many cases
removed the cab files resulting in continual problems for their users when
adding hardware.

See MS KB 265371 - "How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in
Windows Me" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=265371) for details of how
to manually extract files from the cab set. Alternatively use MSConfig |
General | Extract File... and follow the prompts to extract a new copy of
the required files to your windows\system32\drivers folder . Most USB
related files can be found in BASE2.CAB although some are located in
other cabs.

Alternatively you could visit
http://www.usb-drivers.com/drivers/63/63237.htm and download usb-WinMe.exe
which contains Win Me's usb related files. Extract the files you want and
put them in windows\system32\drivers.

Oh Mike, you just saved some expensive electronics from
getting tossed out the window! I found the Base2.cab in
the cabs folder and followed what you suggested. All works
well for now!! Thanks, you have made my evening for me.

Thanks again for all your help - you guys are the best!

Steve,

That's good news. Thanks for letting us know that you've now managed to
keep not only whatever hair you might have left but also your digital
camera. Glad to have been of some help to you.

Regards,
