Default Back up and working!

A day or two ago, I posted a message saying that my Internet Explorer was freezing up and an unknown program was not responding when I went to shut down my computer. It was really wierd, because it was only after I visited this site only! Anyways, I did a format on my C: and started fresh. Now things are working fine! I have no idea what the problem was. But thanks to those who offered help tp me.

Sometimes you need to get a recent registry by using the scanreg util from
Dos. I have seen horrible messes clear up in minutes this way. Reformatting
should only be a last resort, in my opinion.

Default Back up and working!

You are welcome. How long did it take to do the fresh install? Any
driver problems? Have you reinstalled all your downloaded apps?
Preserved all your user files/settings? Done all your Windows Updates?
Said three prayers each time it wanted to reboot?

Once you have a functioning system, especially one close to a clean
install, do a full system backup. If you have multiple partitions, I
guess a backup is a bit more complex. It depends upon the ties between
the Registry & the other partitions, as to whether they must be backed
up concurrently. Also, if you've changed the hardware since the backup,
you may need to change it back before a restore.

If it's an Image, use it's verify option; perhaps, restore it and do a

Those last two supposedly back up all currently installed drivers, such
that they can be reinstalled. I never tried it but have seen a favorable
report.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
