"WMPDXM.DLL error" when opening desktop icons
Hi, in need of help for the above.
Constantly get this message when trying to open any icons located on my desktop. Someone told me it is probably a trojan, but I've tried all the antivirus/trojan removal software out there, but can't fix the problem!! I can still open the relevant applications via \Start\Programs.... Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers, Paul. |

Paul,
This problem seems to be the result of a damaged Windows Media Player 9 install and using Windows Explorer's web view rather than classic view. So, as a first suggestion, try reinstalling WMP9. If that doesn't help until you find a fix switch to using Explorer's classic view (Folder Options | General and check the boxes "Use Windows Classic desktop" and "Use Windows classic folders" Zachd from Microsoft recently posted in the windowsme.multimedia newsgroup the following reply to a poster experiencing similar problems to those you are seeing. quote Hm. Do you get the chance to send a crash report? If so, there may be a crash bucket number that it might be possible to use to glean further information here... This could only really happen if the multimedia view was being at least initiated (if not displayed) for those folders. Obviously, you should be able to get rid of this error by turning off the Web View and switching back to Classic View for your folders. Alternatively and not recommended, you can run "regsvr32 c:\windows\system\msdxm.ocx", which will put WMP6 (not WMP9) back in charge of shell folder multimedia preview. You can run "regsvr32 c:\windows\system\wmpdxm.dll" to undo that. \quote -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Paul wrote: Hi, in need of help for the above.
