Default Does this error message mean it's over?

My friends HP with ME has an error message stating: "Mmkeybd has caused an
error in MDMDVDIF.DLL. Mmkeybd will now close." At this point, the machine
freezes and is unable to do anything except turn it off. Would like to turn
on, save some data and pictures and upgrade to XP.

The MMKB drivers on an HP enable the special buttons on the top of the
keyboard. Your friend should boot to Safe Mode and uninstall One-touch
multimedia keyboard from Control Panel Add/Remove Program. He could
reinstall from the recovery disc 3 Drivers and Applications or just do
without the special buttons. He could find the newest MMKB setup at HP and
install again. He could boot to Safe Mode and do a Restore to a day before
the problem started.

Thanks John. Your last option seems the easiest. Will he be walked through
restore mode like in XP or is it more complicated?

IIRC the Restore in ME will be just like Restore in XP. Good luck
