Default HELP- PC with Win ME won't shut down properly

Hi Mike,
The card is a Linksys LNE100TX less than a year old. It was a little strange
from the start, because the driver installation instructions said go to the
E:\Drivers\Win ME folder, but that didn't exist on the CD. I had to use
"oemsetup.inf" originally. Recently I went to their website and found a
driver for Win ME and updated to that one. No change in the shutdown
problem. In the meantime, I keep losing file fragments. It has me worried,
last year this happened and I had to reinstall Win ME and all my software.

Hi Art,

Sorry nothing to suggest but well done for finding what was causing the
hang-ups. I don't know what network card you are using or how old are the
drivers but significant changes were made in this area between Win 98SE
and Win Me which could explain the problems if the card is an older one.

Mike,
Installing the drive cache update didn't help. Also, the delay was
already set to 2000. I went through the procedure for troubleshooting
shut down problems. When I disable the network card in device
manager, the computer shuts down fine. I contacted Linksys support by
email and am trying to get a good answer out of them. So far they
only suggested removing and re-installing the network card. I did
that with no help. They also want me to try the card in another PC.
The only other one sort of available is a Pentium 120 with 16 or 32
MB ram running Win 98. Due to the limited RAM, I don't have much
confidence in trying that one.
I'll post any further news. I might have to go buy a different brand
network card and try it. Do you have any other ideas?
