Joan,

Not at all. Noel appears to have possibly misread the poster's reply as
indeed did I initially. :-)

For clarification the *Statemgr entry **does** exist and **is** checked.

Having renamed and then deleted the old C:\_RESTORE folder, has it been
recreated? It should have, and if the State Manager is not running it
should also be empty. Using System Information (Start | Run, enter
MSInfo32 and then click OK), do you see stmgr.exe listed under Software
Environment | Running Tasks?

Stmgr.exe is listed under Software Environment | Running Tasks.

_RESTORE has been recreated. There are 4 files in it. DISKCFG.DAT,
SRDISKID.DAT, VxDMon.cfg, and VxDMon.dat. Upon seeing this, I checked the
troubleshooting tab under *file system*. *Disable System Restore* is no
longer checked.

It appears that problem is fixed. Don't really know how. This was weird!

Thanks for all of y'alls help!

I'm pleased to read the problem has now resolved itself. May I suggest
that you carry out the following quick test to confirm that all is now in
order.

a) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file.
b) Create a manual checkpoint
Could you create a checkpoint?
c) Delete the shortcut
d) Restore your PC to the checkpoint you created.
Was the shortcut restored? Did you see any error messages?
e) Reboot your PC
Was the checkpoint retained?

Mike, I haven't performed the steps that you outlined. But I have to tell
you that I have had to restore my system just a few moments ago due to some
networking issues and blue screens. So the system restore does work.

Great. The test I outlined was just a quick and easy method of testing
whether SR is working correctly or not. Having used SR for real and it
having worked you obviously don't need to bother with such a test. vbg

Cheers,
