For clarification the *Statemgr entry **does** exist and **is** checked.

Having renamed and then deleted the old C:\_RESTORE folder, has it been
recreated? It should have, and if the State Manager is not running it should also be empty. Using System Information (Start | Run, enter MSInfo32 and then click OK), do you see stmgr.exe listed under Software Environment | Running Tasks? -- Mike Maltby Orynthion wrote: For clarification the *Statemgr entry **does** exist and **is** checked. |

Stmgr.exe is listed under Software Environment | Running Tasks.
_RESTORE has been recreated. There are 4 files in it. DISKCFG.DAT, SRDISKID.DAT, VxDMon.cfg, and VxDMon.dat. Upon seeing this, I checked the troubleshooting tab under *file system*. *Disable System Restore* is no longer checked. It appears that problem is fixed. Don't really know how. This was weird! Thanks for all of y'alls help! "Mike M" wrote: Having renamed and then deleted the old C:\_RESTORE folder, has it been recreated? I'm pleased to read the problem has now resolved itself. May I suggest
that you carry out the following quick test to confirm that all is now in order. a) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file. b) Create a manual checkpoint Could you create a checkpoint? c) Delete the shortcut d) Restore your PC to the checkpoint you created. Was the shortcut restored? Did you see any error messages? e) Reboot your PC Was the checkpoint retained? -- Mike Maltby Orynthion wrote: Stmgr.exe is listed under Software Environment | Running Tasks. _RESTORE has been recreated. Mike, I haven't performed the steps that you outlined. But I have to tell
you that I have had to restore my system just a few moments ago due to some networking issues and blue screens. So the system restore does work. So the system restore does work. Great. The test I outlined was just a quick and easy method of testing whether SR is working correctly or not. Having used SR for real and it having worked you obviously don't need to bother with such a test. vbg Cheers, -- Mike Maltby |
