Mike or Others: When installing the alternate CyberPower software I've gotten
"Access Violation" warnings for both upssrv.exe and C:\CyberPower\upsc.exe. Techs closed after cable recd Friday and will call Monday, but is this a generic enough warning to know whether to say Ignore (& proceed), Abort, or Retry (which fails) in loading software? Or is it product specific enough to wait til Monday? Many Thanks! "Heather" wrote: Thanks for the info, Craig. I was warned not to use it and you have proven that warning to be valid. If I am leaving the house for any period of time, I usually shut down my computer. My husband has absolutely no clue on how to do that, so don't want him to have a heart attack if the UPS starts beeping....lol. We happen to live in an area that gets a lot of power surges and drops, so am quite happy with both of the UPS units I have. CyberPower in particular is more of a *power leveller*. Cheers....Heather in the Great White North "Craig S" wrote in message ... Thanks to all for posts. I Deleted the CyberPower app yesterday and have had day & half of clear sailing. Would have acted up by now with app in. Will Search for update on IFSMGR file. Thanks again! "w_tom" wrote: Windows ME suffers from its legacy as a derivative of DOS. However problems with newer devices such as USB sometimes means the IFSMGR file must be upgraded. Search the Microsoft database for what may be your necessary upgrade file. Of course this has nothing to due with UPS operation or how UPS provides power to the computer's power cord. Craig S wrote: Thanks, Heather. Have Deleted the CyberPower App to prove that's the cause but without it the back-up battery will run to "0" and I don't know if the computer can be damaged when the Battery Power Drops to a certain Low Level. Any add-on thoughts from anyone is appreciated! "Heather" wrote: Hi Craig...... I have used CyberPower for 3 years and never have a blue screen. However, I do not use the software to shut the computer down because I was advised not to by someone here. CyberPower is an excellent company to deal with. My UPS got blown by a surge and subsequently my computer took a bit of a hit. There are no warnings when the thing is dead!! I am also using APC which is not quite as expensive......but no software on that one either. WinME is a tad touchy with that sort of thing, I understand. Only after installing CyberPower UPS Mgt app ( shuts down computer after x minutes on battery, etc.) do I get daily a Blue "There's been an Error" screen that requires Re-boot and generates the Desktop Recovery screen. Are solutions for this likely conflict ever possible or do you just have to get another brand of UPS?; A prior Conext UPS application caused no issue. I'm contacting CyberPower too but don't know whether a Windows expert or UPS expert will have best suggestion. As always, Many Thanks! |

Turns out Clk'ing "Ignore" after Access Violation warning and letting the
320SL software load IS a solution. The last screen locked-up after clking Ignore and I had to Re-boot, but the UPS Icon was sitting in the Sys Tray by the clock and works. Maybe even another and older model software would work as it would have been written when Me was "current". (Remember Serial Cable was sent by CyberPower in lieu of USB cable from box.) FYI to Heather to try if you want visable status and manage when the software will close programs and shut-off computer. No conflicts for me after 2 days and they always occurred smae day software loading occurred. Thanks, Craig......but I am not going to bother with the shutdown software.
The less things that can go wrong, the better, lol. Besides, I always turn the computer off if I go out....can't rely on Ron to shut it down....he doesn't know how. Which probably is a good thing....(G) Cheers...Heather "Craig S" wrote in message ... Turns out Clk'ing "Ignore" after Access Violation warning and letting the 320SL software load IS a solution.
