Removing Adware Corrupted the Protocol Stack
I removed a host of adware from an ME system and now when
the browser tries to access a site on the Internet it can't resolve the address. The address in the address bar re-displays as corrupted, such as: http://www.yahoo.com becomes: http://?%20www.yahoo.com And the page states that it can't find the site. I tried Ping and it gives the same problem. I reinstalled the operating system, on top of the existing one, and it did not correct the issue. I would rather not do a fresh installation to avoid reinstalling all of the other software. The Internet was working before removing the Adware. How can I determine what may be causing this, and thus figure out how to solve it? |

Check your Hosts file (no extension). It may be hidden, and in ME I believe
it's in \system. The Hosts file is a listing of URL names to URL numbers and it maybe screwed up. "Pat" wrote in message ... Removing Adware Corrupted the Protocol Stack
Pat,
The issue *may* have arisen from running an out of date edition of AdAware or may be due to out of date definition files . Download, read the FAQ ( http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.txt ), run : LSP-Fix http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm If LSP Fix will attempt to repair the Winsock stack if it detects that it is damaged. If it is not, LSP Fix will inform you of that. You may need to uninstall/reinstall Winsock and DUN : Uninstall and Reinstall Communications and Edit the Registry http://support.earthlink.net/mu/1/ps.../5289.psc.html MowGreen [MVP] ================ *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten ================ Pat wrote: I removed a host of adware from an ME system and now when the browser tries to access a site on the Internet it can't resolve the address.
