Default "Application Data" subdirectory under Win98 directory

Can someone tell me what is the general function/concept of the
subject subdirectory?

Let me specify that, in my Pc, such subdirectory contains a number of
subsubdirectories: Adobe, Aim, Awac, Fleok, Goodsol, Identities,
InterTrust, Micromedia, Microsoft, Microsoft Web Folders, Mozilla,
OnTrack, Phoenix, Real, Spybot - Search&Destroy, Zip Genius.

I have very many more programs installed, which do not show up in
Application Data.

Thanks and regards

c:\windows\application data
is a system file of Win98 for its own purposes
but other programmers are free to add subfolders
there. There is not much you can do about it.
