Not that I can think of. I've yet to see any problems with it on 98 systems.
Still, I'm sure some here will have tales to tell. The trick is to see if there are any underlying constants involved that match your situation. -- Gary S. With support as in the case of updates already becoming a rare thing from
Microsoft on 98SE, I would have the latest version of IE. You may want to consider Mozilla Firefox too since it does not have Active X vulnerabilities of IE but you still must be sure to keep IE up to date. "Eugene Fridman" wrote in message ... You don't want ActiveX in IE? Turn it off in Security Settings! Wanting to be
protected from ActiveX is no reason to use Firefox. There may be others, but that ain't one of them. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "Dan" wrote in message ... MS considers IE6 SP1 to be a Critical Update: http://snipurl.com/4bgz. The
author of that post, Anthony Grey, heads up the IE/OE sustained engineering team at Microsoft. Upgrading will necessitate two (2) visits to Windows Update: One to install IE6 SP1 (and reboot), then another to install post-SP1 updates for both IE and Win98. To assure a clean install, your anti-virus application should be disabled and all other running processes closed before installing anything, including Windows Updates. Early versions of IE6 SP1 proved troublesome for a small minority of Win98 users but such bugs have been addressed and trouble us no more. Don't let anyone else tell you differently. (And don't believe a word of what Colorado says! eg) -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE) Eugene Fridman wrote: I'm thinking of upgrading Internet Explorer 5.50 to 6 SP1 on my Win '98SE system. LOL!!!
They said "resistance is futile", but they were wrong! As for me, I'm QUITE CONTENT with IE 5.5 SP2. There have been some rumors (not created by me) that some people using Win98SE had some problems with IE 6. I don't know if that is the case - most people here say it works great. So - if you want the newest model, go for it! But as for me, (and just as an aside), I'm still QUITE CONTENT with WMP 6.4 too (just for the record) So there! LOL. Gary S.
