I was trying to remove some programes from START -
CONTROL PANEL - ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM. Upon selected the
program and click 'Add/Remove' button, the pop up window
showed "This MSI must be launched through set-up" followed
by Fatal Error "Installation ended prematurely because of
an error".
I trying to MS online help and download instmsia.exe.
However, the message "The specified service already
exists" appeared when this program was executed.
Please help. I am using Window 98.
Thanks and Regards

What programs are giving you this error when you try to uninstall them?

Do these programs have an uninstall entry in their folder on the Start Menu
Programs?

Have a look here for some solutions, on the Symantec (Norton) support pages:

Glee, thank for your advice. Upon downloading the various
related web files and understanding the instructions. I
was able to remove the Norton System Works and Norton
Internet Security Professional from the Control Panel.
However, there is still this "Symantec LiveReg" that
remained. When I tried to remove, the pop-up showed:
Symantec LiveReg cannot be removed at this time because
the following applicable require this component. Norton
Internet Security Professional. Appreciate your help
again.
Regards.

LiveReg usually can't be removed until all Symantec programs that use it, are
uninstalled. You say that you were able to uninstall Norton Internet Security
Professional , yet LiveReg apparently still thinks it is installed. You may not
have removed every reference to it in the Registry. It can sometimes be very
difficult to find and remove all the references to Symantec programs....it is one of
the reasons I don't like or use their software.

If you are sure you have followed all the instructions at the web site to remove the
programs, you may have to manually search the Registry for all remaining references
to the Symantec programs, and delete the information from the Registry. This can be
very difficult, and also somewhat dangerous to your system, as a mistake in deleting
from the registry could create more problems, or even prevent Windows from starting.

You should backup the Registry using scanreg, from Start Menu Run, before doing
anything to it. Then open the Registry Editor (StartRunRegedit), search for
Symantec, and Norton, and remove the Registry keys referring to Internet Security
Professional.

Again, the work involved in manually removing Symantec products makes them not worth
installing in the first place, IMHO.
