Win 98SE no sound even with a new sound card HELP!!!!
Hi Folks, I was wondering if one of you folks could help me here!
Specs, err Windows 98 Se, Packard Bell Pulsar 600 196 meg ram ok so it aint anything great but it'll do for my kids, so we are given this computer and some disks!!!! not too sure if they are the correct ones but I used the 98 disk to install a fresh copy of windows 98se so I had a clean start, Graphics were no good so I put in a spare All-in-wonder VE64 i had lying around, so thats the graphics sorted, still no sound, So I figure the disk didn't have the correct drivers and I went in search, and search and search. . . . man i never thought it wouuld take so long. eventually I found the motherboard manufacturer and downloaded the yamaha driver it said were the installed ones, still no sound.!!!! when I checked under the multi media files on the control panels section there are none listed.!! ok so I aint got time for this so I go and get a cheep sound card for a fiver and bag that in thinking that will sort it out,!! no joy!! I still have no sound or multimedia listed in the control panels. So it is another piece of software that wasn't installed, yeh??? Any ideas folks, basically I have installed win 98 se twice, full updates from microsoft, no sound, installed on-board sound drivers, no sound, . I have put in a new PCI sound card, installed drivers still no sound!! Please help, thanks in advance even if you only read this file |

Win 98SE no sound even with a new sound card HELP!!!!
After you installed the new sound card. At boot did it show that Windows
found a new device? If not...you may have a section in MB bios to turn off the on board sound card/device. Did you check "Device Manager" for any red-mark alerts pertaining to sound devices? In control panel after the install of the sound card open multimedia and see if the card is listed in the dropdowns. Post back.
