Windows ME Fails To "SAVE PICTURES AS"
After a recent re-install of ME my system no longer allows
me to RIGHT CLICK on WEB pictures or animations and save them as anything other than an ART or BITMAP file extension (which will not preview or display on my system) Prior to the re-install, the pull down file menue that appeared when saving pictures gave me multiple options ie: JPG, JPEG, BITMAP, GIF etc! Deleting Temp Internet Files and Cookies has not helped to remedy the problem. Is their anyone who can explain the steps needed to correct this problem? Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance |

Are you sure that you really cleaned out the Temporary Internet Files
including all off line content?. I would try this again as 99.9% of the time a bloated TIF is the cause of the problem you are seeing. There is also a second rarely encountered cause and that is when the URL contains a username and password (see below) For more details see: KB810978 - "Internet Explorer Saves Images As Bitmaps (.bmp Files)" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=810978), and,. KB260650 - "Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=260680). In an attempt for completeness I also include KB250747 - "Right-Clicking, Selecting 'Save Picture As' Does Not Save Image with Correct Extension" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=250747) although this is hardly likely to be applicable here. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Shell/User wrote: After a recent re-install of ME my system no longer allows me to RIGHT CLICK on WEB pictures or animations and save them as anything other than an ART or BITMAP file extension (which will not preview or display on my system) Prior to the re-install, the pull down file menue that appeared when saving pictures gave me multiple options ie: JPG, JPEG, BITMAP, GIF etc!
