Help about win98 compatibility
Hi,
I have a doubt and i hope you can help me. I'm going to upgrade my old pc, based on a Duron processor with 128+256 mb ram, so i'm going to buy an Athlon 64 3500+ for socket AM2 and a right motherboard, without substituting the hard disk. On this pc i have installed win 98, because I have some programs that only work on it (not on win xp) and so I have now two operating system installed (win xp and 98). My question is: if i replace motherboard and CPU, can I continue to use win98? New 64 bit processor are compatible with win98? I need to install something else (patches), or I just begin to work only replacing the mobo and the cpu? Thank you! |

I doubt that Windows 98 is going to work on your new hardware. Unless the
motherboard manufacturer has Windows 98 drivers I'd bet it won't. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] * NEW! Probably will if using the backwards compatible 32bit. Doubt it with 64bit,
especially seeing that drivers/software for 64bit aren't being geared towards 98. -- Brian A. Wish I could participate or actually provide input, but memory, processor, and my system, negates that ability. I can read all I want [and have read some of the articles on VM and VPC], but for "real world" analysis, setup and the like, from actual users, I find [monitoring other News Groups and Forums discussing this] this can be daunting to follow for potential users. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com/ BLOG http://peoplescounsel.spaces.live.com/ Public Notice or the "real world" "Most people, sometime in their lives, stumble across truth.
