Most Windows 98 installation sets are on CD, not floppy. Are you sure it's
Win98 you had and not Win95? Anyway, no, if the manufacturer is out of business, I don't *think* you can get a replacement from MS. You *can* however, still find plenty of OEM Win98 CDs online for sale. Try EBay. Make sure you're getting a physical CD *and* COA, not just COA. -- Gary S. it was the floppy edition - apparently ms did them as a retail option, if you
bought the retail box version, it contained the cd version, but you could send the coupon off to recieve win98 on floppies - the disk contents are also listed as a part of the MSDN library. "Gary S. Ahhh... Yeah, I remember that now. But in that case, your real proof of
purchase is the original CD. If you don't have that, you're definitely SOL. MS still, I believe, have a replacement "installation media" program, but you have to have at least the Registration Number (not the Product Key) and possibly one or two other proofs--and even then I'm not certain they'd cover your OEM situation. Might not be cheaper, but it would definitely be much less frustrating to just buy a CD online. -- Gary S. Oh! You have CDs but need floppies? May I ask why? Just so I can offer some
workarounds? Why can you not install using the CD? (I can think of a few reasons but I'd rather you to tell me.) Only other thing I can suggest is that you try contacting MS United Kingdom and ask if they can help you. My guess is that they won't be able to, but you never know what kind of old stock might be lying around. http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support -- Gary S. Then you would need...maybe 70 or 80 floppies and *many* hours of time to make them and install. It would be *cheaper* and *faster* to just put a cdrom in your machine... or else take out the HD and copy the cab files unto it |
