I'm facing problems with the instalation of the Windows 98
I have a clone with the next characteristics: Board AT SIS 5595 , Pentium III
of 366MHZ New HD of 30GB, 64MB of SDRAM, AMIBIOS System v.1.2.0 and I bought the PC at 1998. I made a new and unique primary and active partition of the total HD as FAT32 through FDISK. Then I formatted the HD and everything has been ok according the scadisk result. Anyway when I'm Installing Win98 SE English version. During the step calls: of the Installation I got the next error message: Setup has detected a Corrupt Setup (.cab) file This may be caused by a virus, low conventional memory, bad media or a hardware problem. May you let me know what that error means? Is that error about Physical Memory Problems, something about the HD or with the Processor? May you support to me and help to me about it please? |

That can be caused by not enough conventional memory for Setup to extract files from the CAB files. Boot with a Win98 Startup Diskette with CDrom support and then run Setup from the CD. That will provide enough conventional memory for the install. The drive letter of the CDrom may be one higher than normal. e.g. D: to E: or F: If no help copy the Win98 folder on the Win 98 CD to your HDD and run Setup.exe from there. To copy the folder from Dos boot with the Startup diskette and enter these commands: C: MD \Win98 Copy D:\Win98\*.* C:\win98 C:\Win98\Setup.exe You may need to try E: or F: instead of D: for the CDrom drive. This can help if the CDrom drive is to slow to keep up with the extraction of CAB files but it doesn't matter as much when just copying. Anytime Windows needs something from the CD it will get it from the Win98 folder on the Hard drive instead of the CD. Regards, Bill Watt Computer Help and Information http://home.epix.net/~bwatt/ |
