Failing miserably to network 2 PCs

Yes. I did.


you should only have the active NIC
if the onboard is disabled ...remove the onboard from device manager ,

make
sure it is disabled and see if it redetects(it should not)


Unfortunately Good ol' Windows does redetect it - every time.

this may be part of the problem (i think i mentioned removing all NIC
references in device manager in safe mode to make sure you do not have
"ghosts")

Been there. Done that. No ghosts.

Have got another NIC card to try now in combination with the first card to
see if that gives me any joy. I'll let you know later what happens on that
front.

it's finally been beaten into submission. I've still got to use NETBEUI to
get the two PC's to talk to each other mind you. But heck who cares it's
working with both PC's being able to see the web.
