Explorer gone wrong

Since installing an update for internet explorer ME seems
to have reverted back to a very old version of IE. I have
attemted to repair the interent explorer but it failed
then tried to remove and said it failed. after rebooting
the correct version once again worked but now in both
internet explorer and windows explorer you can load a web
page or go into my computer and it just shows a blank
screen.

It is correctly navigating as for example, in 'my
computer' it correctly identifies 4 items in the bottom
left corner but you can't click any of them. its as if a
blanket of whiteness is blocking everything.

Have tried to reinstall IE6 over the top but it just say
unable to perform.
