Installer created an extra stuff
I just installed drivers for D-Link DFE520TX PCI ethernet adapter from CD
that comes with the adapter. Alongside the installing drivers, installer created D-Link folder in C:\Program Files\ with few extra folders (Vista, Vista 64, Win64 and files Config.dat, DeviceInst.exe), and two entries in Add/Remove programs: D-Link DFE520TX and D-Link PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. Not sure can I uninstall extra stuff only via Add/Remove programs? Sure, I want uninstall only extra stuff for other OS, just dont want extra stuff in 'Program files' directory. |

I imagine that it would be quite OK to delete the folders that do not refer
to your OS. If you are unsure, rename them and run your system for a few days to confirm that they aren't required for operation of the card, then delete them. -- Jeff Richards ---------------------------------------- "Aster" wrote in message ... I am quite sure that vista and win XP drivers isn't required.. Not sure
about entries in Add/Remove programs. Aster ------- "Jeff Richards" wrote in message ... I imagine that it would be quite OK to delete the folders that do not refer to your OS. As Jeff mentioned, to be sure nothing in the "extra" folder(s) are not needed
for proper operation of the adapter, rename the folder(s) first for a few days and if everything still works properly delete the folder(s). The purpose for renaming the folder(s) is to keep the folder(s) and its contents from being used. If you start getting messages that the folder(s) can't be found you may want to delete the folder(s) without removing them from the recycle bin. By leaving them in the recycle bin you could restore them if any issues arise after deleting them. Once you know 100% that the folder(s) are not required for proper operation you can delete them permanently. As for the items listed in Add/Remove Programs, both may serve different purposes. One entry may be for the drivers and the other may be for software/configuration, the only way to see if both are needed is to uninstall them one at a time although they may be reinstalled after a reboot. -- Brian A.
